about me
Hi! I'm Anna Blum!
I am a video editor and digital content professional. I was born and raised in New York City, and I didn't go far for college, traveling to Poughkeepsie to study at Vassar College where I majored in Film. I did a semester abroad in Sydney, Australia at the Sydney Film School, where I had the opportunity to direct my first short film, "Generation Girl," which played at film festivals throughout the country. My senior thesis film, which I wrote and directed, called "That Your Body is for Receiving Happiness and Good Stuff," played at festivals in 2017 and won the audience award for Best Student Film at the Oceanside International Film Festival.

Since graduating, I've looked for ways to bring my love of storytelling into my work. I've created digital content, worked in post-production for an online streaming platform, and most recently led digital content strategy and development at a nonprofit focused on fighting stigma around substance use disorder. These experiences have shown me how powerful storytelling can be in creating meaningful change. For me, storytelling isn't just about getting more views or boosting numbers — although I absolutely see the importance in that, too. It's about finding meaningful ways to connect with all kinds of people. Being a person is so difficult but oftentimes also hilarious and beautiful, and attempting to reach audiences through digital content is a lovely way to explore that.
Writing is still a big passion of mine. My latest feature screenplay, "Those Who Can't Do," was a quarter-finalist at the Creative Screenwriting Feature Screenplay Competition in 2023. I use my free time to keep the writing muscle active, working on short stories and screenplays whenever I can. At my current nonprofit job, I started a blog where I look at how substance use disorder is shown in popular media and how that shapes public opinion and either furthers stigma or combats it.
A few more things about me: I'm a devoted fan of reality TV, I love making predictions about award shows all year round, and I spend almost every extra cent I have at Brooklyn bookstores.
